The only downside is the ammo can be a little pricey but you can reload it yourself. The gun is very accurate and becuase it has basically a pistol round it does not have the penetrating power to do great damage like a bigger caliber will if a bullet strays, not that any bullet is safe but there are differing degrees. The round has plenty of punch to kill the bad guy in your living room though. Plus the gun is light and easy to fire and keep on target.

PLus you can throw on a sliding stock to make it even more compact!

Only problem with Rugers is their accuracy is really variable between rifles.
I think the mini 30's have reportedly better accuracy? Ammo is just as cheap. . .
The action is sound but for some reason the barrels never seem to group consistently for most peoplel. . . .
Definately a bargain tho!

Anyone buying a high power rifle for home defense needs to be slapped in the face repeatedly. Just buy a decent 12 gauge for the home & save more $ to get a fun rifle to take to the range. Not only is a rifle for home defense impracticle, it is also dangerous. One miss and you could easily kill a neighbor. (disregard all this if you live on a bunch of land and want to dissuade trespassers)
