I used books of the bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus. But you could use the Latin Alphabet also, that would be pretty cool.

Homer, Bart, Maggie, Marge, Lisa, Patty, Selma, Burns, Smithers, Lenny, Carl, Krusty, Kent Brockman, Arnie Pie, Krabapple, Skinner, etc.

If it's a large facility, I agree that generic WS names describing the locations of each WS are best, but you can still go crazy with the workgroup and server names.

I like Kami's idea. I did almost the same thing, except I named it after Elendil's sword, Narsil :)

try these, especially on production networks.

<01><02>MSBROWSE<02><01>

<DOMAIN><00>
<DOMAIN><1b>
<DOMAIN><1c>
<DOMAIN><1d>

where domain is the name of the MS domain.

also use a workgroup name greater than 16 characters
use a name like barey, followed by twent white space characters like <space>, MS loves whitespace in domain/computer names.

name you machine the same as a server followed by white space
name a workgroup the same as a server followed by white space
name a workgroup the same as a server

HAVE FUN!

Presidents.

Trees, flowers, plants.

Characters from your favorite sci-fi series (I'd work with the McCaffery stuff - Pern, Rowan, living Ships - because they are mostly short names.

DOH! I was just going to say that.. South Park names... I set up a network with 3 computers a couple of months ago for college girls, named the workgroup "townsville" and their computers were named blossom, buttercup, and bubbles. (powerpuff girls) Kinda girly, but kinda cool.
