I recently upgrade to the faster connection Time Warner has to offer. They just came out with a 10 down / 1 up. I am running a linksys setup with the following:

Router - WRT54G V3.0
Modem - BEFCMU10

Please suggest me a new cable modem and router. I am reading more and more that the linksys setups just are not working right. Any suggestions here?

Before giving up on the WRT, I'd try DD-WRT firmware on it. Even if giving up on it and get another wireless router, it might be useful as a wireless bridge.

I've measured around 16 Mb/s through my WRT54G v1's WAN port when running DD-WRT, and the v1 should be much slower than a v3.

You can check the router's performance and hence the cable modem's performance by temporarily connecting directly to the cable modem. If it's not up to snuff, then, perhaps consult with your ISP/support for modem recommendations if still needed.

Well, here is the thing. I just unplugged the router's power, cycled it, plugged it back in, and I get some strange things. First, the power light is blinking. Second, a light on the CISCO logo came on white, then went orange. I have never seen that light come on in my life. Third, any computer I use WILL NOT connect to the router. It gives the connection has limited or connectivity. Yes, I am using the WIRED portion of it. So, as of right now, my router is screwed. and ideas on what this is and how I can fix it?

There are many reports of similar problems; one suggestion to try new power supply, and several reports of problems being fixed with re-flash of the firmware.

I'd try a reset first -- hold down the reset button for 30s, and power it down for 30s, and try powering it back up. Then I'd try replacing the power supply and perhaps the reset again. Then I'd try a firmware re-load. Note the static IP part.

I'd try a new power supply with the same voltage and polarity because I've had 3/4 WRT54G v1 power supplies fail over time. The v3 PSU shouldn't have the same flaw, but I wouldn't know without trying a replacement.

One wonders how a working router suddenly warrants a firmware re-load. Was the wireless active and unsecured or only secured with WEP? Was the password the default? ...

Of course, the HW might just have kicked the bucket -- perhaps this is the simplest explanation. And as about the only user-replaceable/fixable part is the PSU...

Edit: Huge Linksys URL replaced with shorter one.

How am I to flash it if I cannot connect to it. I have tried the power cycle, the reset button, and still, the power light blinks, and this Cisco logo lights up, anyone know why this would light up? I have never ever seen it light up before.
