Gotta pick something up for tonight, but not a big wine expert. Can you recommend something decent? Don't want to spend a fortune but are willing to spend in the range of $40-50 bucks.

<---- wine noob.

I've tried several different bottles from my local liquor store and most of them turned out to be crap. I bought a bottle from duty free shop in paris a couple of years ago and that was the best wine, albeit a bit pricy at 60 euros.

I second the Australian Shiraz. YellowTail has a good bottle for cheap.

Yellow tail is pretty nasty and I like cheap wines. Anyway he said for around $40-$50. Good suggestions other than yellowtail for under $10 would be Penfolds shiraz-cab blend and Dancing Bull Zinfadel. Both are softer red wines and cheap. For a little more, get something like Sterling Merlot, or Penfolds Bin 407 cabernet.

I'm not a big wine drinker (I prefer beer because it's a more sophisticated drink) but the Yellowtail is a very good one.

I would recommend getting something that doesnt cost $40-$50 if your asking for advice it must mean your not to familiar with wine, you probably wouldnt be able to discern much difference between a $50 and a $25 bottle.

If you can locate some, the Beringer private reserve cabs from 97 are pretty good and drinkable now but might be a little costly now. A friend brought a bottle over a little while ago and I drank it pretty fast not realizing how expensive the bottles are now haha.

Another inexpensive suggestion would be Lockwood cabernet. Very soft and slightly berry, almost like a pinot noir, excellent with medium dishes.

I'm a fan of petite syrah's. They are usually red wines for non-red wine drinkers. :)

Ok, I ended up buying 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon and I gotta say for the price it's a pretty good wine. I've had better, but most of them cost a lot more. Thanks everybody for your help!
