I would recommend getting something that doesnt cost $40-$50 if your asking for advice it must mean your not to familiar with wine, you probably wouldnt be able to discern much difference between a $50 and a $25 bottle.
If you can locate some, the Beringer private reserve cabs from 97 are pretty good and drinkable now but might be a little costly now. A friend brought a bottle over a little while ago and I drank it pretty fast not realizing how expensive the bottles are now haha.
Another inexpensive suggestion would be Lockwood cabernet. Very soft and slightly berry, almost like a pinot noir, excellent with medium dishes.
