Gave my parents my old PC, which has HD4870X2 in it. The fan on that card is going caput, so i want to buy them a new current gen card for under $150. I ordered HD7770 but had 2nd thoughts about it and canceled amazon order. It makes me cringe knowing that my 3 generation old 4870X2 would still outperform new gen low-end card. Please suggest a good card which can handle D3 and other similar intensity games. My mom is playing D3 now on 4870X2 so i would like a card that can keep up with D3 as well as 4870x2 does... Not talking benchmarks, but some eye candy would be nice...

Well a 7750 can do mid 30s fps at 2560x1600 and 50s at 1680x1050, so it all depends on your resolution I guess

I think their screen is 1080... 1 CHEAP monitor setup...

I want the 7x gen due to lower power req than 6x. My first thought was 7770, but when i looked at reviews vs 4870x2 i cringed... but in all honesty 4870x2 is an overkill for them...

I will probably pull trigger on a card tonight. Hd7770 seems ok in terms of price, but personally i have no experience with mid/low end cards, so i don't know below what mark i should not go...

If you want 28nm for low power try the 7750 or 7770 and overclock it a little. Won't be as powerful as a 4870x2 but will have far less power/noise/heat issues. A sub-$100 7750 would be a decent price but really it ought to be sub-$90 if you can find a deal on it. Not sure what the going rate for 7770s is these days.

pulled a trigger on hd7770. Seems the best choice within acceptable budget. It just scared me that 4870x2 was still way better...

Is there a market for 4870x2s these days?

I dunno, but normal 4870's sell really well. I think you'll be happy with your card, if D3 doesn't run perfectly smoothly maxed out, change shadows from high to medium and it won't drop below 100fps and look about the same.

Good choice, 7770 performs pretty well for its price point despite being the newest gen
