my friend has a zen and loves it. I would imaqgine that the micro would be that much better. How many gigs of music do you have? If you got the ipod i bet you would have to be very picky on what you have on your player, which defeats the purpose of an MP3 player to me.

Right now I'm looking at the iriver h10 (http://www.iriveramerica.com/). 5 gb, color screen for jpegs and text files, in line recording, and FM radio. I was happy with my previous 20 gig iriver, but I just never used all the space. This thing is looking pretty good right now :).

By the way, it costs 80 bucks more than the mini, which I think is well worth it for the extra features.

Friend has the Zen Micro, and let me tell you, I'm jealous as hell. It looks small online, but in person it is absolutely tiny 2/3 the size of the Mini (although slightly thicker).

Don't get the Ipod mini, it lacks A. Removable Battery B. Syncing with Outlook C. Not having to use Itunes.

Zen Micro is your best choice, BY FAR.

For sound quality the Rios are great, their Karma even comes with the budget Sennheiser earbuds, which are a huge step up from the crap that other players ship with. The iaudio and iriver offerings are feature-packed, both support a wide range of file formats, have recording & fm tuners, and support the universal mass storage standard (instantly recognized as a hard drive by most OSes), and allow you to drag & drop music using any file manager. The iaudio focuses a bit more on small size while the iriver offers better sound quality. The 40gb iaudio is an especially good value at ~$335. On a budget, the Zen Xtra 40gb can be found for as little as $200, that's a pretty good value.

iRivers ship with Senns and Rio has been producing some major crap lately. If you buy a rio MAKE SURE you buy an extended warranty from whoever you buy it from. 90% chance you'll use it before the first year is over. The h320 is one hell of a player and I love mine. You can flash it to play videos too but its more expencive.

Of the ones you listed I would go with the Zen. Never cared for iPod, just doesn't have the features.

I bought the wife a zen for Christmas and it was piece of junk. The touch interface is a pain because it is way too sensitive. Sometimes while playing a song, it would just skip to the next song with about 30 seconds remaining on the current song. Also, the thing froze up a lot for no reason. Bottom line, we returned it and are goin with the ipod mini, especially since the recent price drop.

Ok so in my opinion I would get a iriver h320. Best mp3 player out there on the market rite now. I have a few movies on there and there pretty much perfect. The people that see the video thing say 10fps and say ohh well thats 10fps are dumb because you dont configure youre movie that way. Rite now i'd eithere go with a samsung or an iriver. Btw I got my ih320 for like 175 $ from bestbuy because I sorta tricked them with the rebates.

Yea misticriver is one of the best forums around as far as product support goes. Personally I don't like the ipod, it doesn't offer enough to justify the price they want for it. It seems like a social token to me but then again I don't use itunes so.. eh. Not to start an ipod flame war or anything but the ipod isn't the end all mp3 player God of the uber l33t universe.

And Coke is 1.79 2liter while Pepsi is 1.39 where I live. Viva la Pepsi~!

I used to have a 20gb IPOD returned it after having few problems but I used itunes to rip most of the cd's so if I get micro will I loose song quality going from 192 aac to wma or mp3??.

How many songs the can store if they are at 192?

I've got the full out IPod (4th Gen, 20GB) and I really couldn't be happier. Got it as a perk at work - I swore I'd never purchase one due to price and fanatic users - but I love it. A friend owns a Creative Zen (not the Micro) and the difference in size is considerably more significant than I anticipated - along with being far less intuitive. $300 isn't anything to cough at, but owning one changed my mind over whether or not it'd be worth it.

I have a Zen USB2 (30GB) and a Ipod (15GB). The ipod's interface is slick and easy to use. the one-button lighted pad fits my fat thumb just right. As for sound, the ipod kicks the Zen's butt, and yet the Zen really rocks. I use Sony MDR-V600's as my reference headphone and the ipod drives it cleaner.

I thought the Ipod was to much $$, but now that I have it...I wouldn't give it up for anything.

You'll always lose quality going from one lossy format to another; it'll sound worse than a cd encoded straight to either format. Lossy codecs achieve their good compression by discarding data they don't deem necessary for the best sound. Different lossy codecs (and even different versions/bitrates of the same one) deem different data unnecessary, and so by transcoding from one to another you're missing not only what one didn't think it needed, but what both didn't think it needed.

I have around 2500-3000 songs with various bit rates from 128-192. Creative also came out with their 6gb version. I doubt that I will ever listen to that many songs all at once so its between mini and micro.

I like the removable battery with fm tuner for micro but I pod has a slick interface wow tough choice.

I don't know if this will help. But, I bought the Zen Xtra 30gb model. I haven't had any problems with it. However, I don't own alot of music. I also use it as an external drive for storage. So, it pulls double duty.
