Let's recap the BCS so far:

USC vs. Illinois: USC blows out an Illinois team clearly not up to the skill level of USC.
Georgia vs. Hawaii: Georgia blows out a Hawaii team clearly not up to the skill level of Hawaii.

Maybe James Carville is right. The BCS is run by a bunch of mental midgets.

Poor Kansas is next, VT is going to slaughter them.

Blame the rose bowl committee since they clearly should have chosen Georgia over Illinois, which would have been a heck of a showdown. Missouri also proved today that they deserved the nod. If Kansas loses it will become even more obvious.

Or more importantly, if there were playoffs such crappy matchups wouldn't matter since the legit teams would win through in the end and face themselves anyways. It's what it always comes back to because its simply an unavoidable flow.

Tradition backfired on the Rose Committee. They oppose a playoff system because it jeporadizes the big 10/pac 10 matchup in the Rose Bowl. We, we all see what tradition leads to.

It might be a few more years, but there will be a playoff system sooner rather than later.

eh w\e interception !

that announcer needs to STFU

HI demanded a BCS bowl and Georgia is giving them what they wanted.

The announcer just refuses to acknowledge that HI didn't deserve to be in a BCS bowl. HI deserves the beat down they are getting.
As far as the cheap shot: the refs didn't blow the whistle until the Georgia guys was slamming the guy down--if anything the ref is responsible for the HI guy getting clocked.

When the hell did Hawaii demand a BCS bowl?

The BCS standings had them at 10. They didn't demand that, it just happened. 😕

Did you not watch the Bosie State or Washington game vs Hawaii?
They were chanting "BCS."
Or listen to the WAC coaches and other WAC people talk about the "injustice" if they didn't get a BCS bid.

The final polls should put HI out of the top 25--where they belong. They played the easiest schedule all of division I (ca. 50 division II schools hard harder schedules). Some of their wins went to overtime a couple of times and they barely beat the worst team in the pac 10--washington. They played a true top 25 team and got destroyed. This should, if the pollsters want to do their job and not pander, get HI out of the top 25.

No I didn't.

And truth be told, they were probably talking about injustice because they simply want the money they get from the bowl. Hawaii's athletic program is a joke compared to many of the D1 football schools, especially Georgia's. So sure they might be sad they lost, but the AD, the Coach to a degree, and the WAC commissioner are probably pleased they got the money.

But even still, I don't care if some of the fans chanted BCS. They still werent the ones who got their team there. It was the BCS that did it. They won out against their weak schedule, but what did you want them to do?

I just don't understand all of this fucking hate for Hawaii. And no I am not a Hawaii fan, but christ guys, this shit happens every year to some degree whether it be a bigger school from a bigger conference being embarrassed or a small one like Hawaii. You should be just as upset that Illinois got thumped IMO.

So....there needs to be a playoff system and all of this crap wouldn't be an issue.

Look like the hula dance HI did at beginning of every game didn't work this time.

So far the SEC is not doing too bad....6-2 with only blow out loss by Ark (Florida/Michigan could go either way).

Yeah, Missouri really got screwed by not getting a BCS bid. How the hell did Kansas get a bid anyway?

The Sugar Bowl would have had to give up Jawja for the Rose Bowl to get them...that wasn't going to happen.

Yeah, the Arkansas loss isn't surprising at all given the turmoil with firing Nutt and hiring Petrino who wasn't even coaching the bowl game. I still wouldn't expect them to have beaten Missouri but they would have put up more of a fight I'm betting.

the SEC champion (that would normally go to the sugar bowl) is playing in the title game. this year the rose bowl got to pick the 1st at large team. sugar bowl couldn't have done anything to stop the rose bowl from picking georgia.

And this game showed exactly why Hawaii was ranked " poorly " for being undefeated..... good job Georgia. 🙂

Thank you. Not sure why people are getting so worked up. Hawaii did what they needed to do all season. They were obviously intimidated coming in to this game, but the more big games they play the less of a factor this will be. Big bowl games can only help recruiting for a historically small-time program, so I think we'll see a lot more of them in the future.

I don't feel too bad for HI either, since they get to fly back to Hawaii after the game. And Georgia gets to go back to ... Georgia. Yay for them.

well the commentators did say that the recruiting budget for Hawaii was only 50k per year and that they have not recruited on the mainland for years.

80% of the teams in the major bcs schools have quicker, stronger players than Hawaii. Hawaii went undefeated because they play in the WAC and their non-conference games were against pretty bad teams. The polls need to really put strength of schedule back into the mix as well as margin of victory(should have a cutoff point though).

Boise State actually had a pretty good team last year and blew alot of teams out. Oklahoma greatly underestimated them and still almost won.

Prior to that Urban Meyer did a great job at Utah.

June Jones has done an excellent job with what little he has been given. If Hawaii were to loosen some purse strings they could easily get in better players...I mean come on...who doesn't want to live in Hawaii?

Tradition is PAC 10 Champ vs. Big Ten Champ...they didnt have that this year so yea it was a mismatch.

That is incorrect. Per BCS bylaws:

When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.

The Sugar Bowl could have blocked the Rose Bowl from picking Georgia.

Hawaii was ranked higher in the BCS computers (which use strength of schedule and ignore MOV) then other computers.

The problem with ignoring the MOV, is that with the limited schedules, it's impossible to get a good ranking. All we know is that Hawaii is better then the best team they played (Boise State, 24th). They could be the best team, or they could be the 23rd best team. When you include MOV and see that Hawaii barely beat a lot of the teams they played, you see it's much closer to the later number.

The problem with using SOS as an individual component is that there is no correlation between SOS and how good a team is. If LSU or Ohio State had played Hawaii's schedule, they would have also been 12-0 and had the same dismal SOS, but would be the same team as they are now. SOS must absolutely be considered by the existing ranking systems, and it is, but putting it back into the formula as a sole component overweights SOS.

Thanks for pointing this out guys. June Jones is underpaid even by WAC standards. His recruiting budget is nothing. The facilities are a complete joke. (They have one video camera - and JJ won that in a pro-am golf tournament) The stadium is falling apart. Jerry Glanville said he has better facilities at PORTLAND STATE than JJ has at UH Manoa. And yet, they went undefeated. That's an accomplishment. They weren't the only school with cream puffs on their schedule but unlike Michigan, USC and a few others, they beat those cream puff teams. They also beat two top 25 teams. The rest of their schedule went through the WAC. They can't pick what conference they were in this year. They're a WAC team. But they did win out.

Yes, UGA was a better team and they showed it. And yes, I think HI was unprepared to play this game. Watching their defense over pursue and get burned EVERY SINGLE PLAY was painful to see. But they are a much better team than they showed last night and they will get better. June Jones has taken a perennial also-ran and turned them into a consistant bowl winner. He has built the program up from nothing, with nothing and this year got them into a BCS bowl. And yes, they deserved to be there.

Why didn't the Sugar Bowl pick Tennessee (#2 overall in SEC) over Georgia (#3 overall in SEC)? It sucks either way because of the two-team limit imposed by the BCS.

hawaii got embarrassed and i loved every minute of it. they shouldn't have been there, and that showed big time. i hope the WAC enjoyed it's moment in the sun, and i hope these weak conferences stop getting into bowls where they clearly do not belong.

I though we got this cleared out

The only reason HI was any good in those games is because those teams SUCKED...
