Will my OCZ GameXStream 600W be sufficient for this build?

NO, not with a 4870x2. Minimum requirement for a 4870x2 is 650w. I would get 750w or higher just to be safe. If you go with a 4870, then yes it will be fine.

Hmmm, conflicting advice.... I'd better get a third opinion. Anyone else care to respond?

Oh, forgot to mention- I'll be OCing the 920 to around 3.4GHz. And I'll be getting a 6pin PCIe to dual 6+2pin PCIe splitter/adapter so that I can have the 8-pin for the 4870x2, since the GameXStream 600W only comes with 2x6pin PCIe cables.

If you were not overclocking I would say you would be ok...since you plan a major overclock, then I suggest you upgrade.

In Bit-tech's review they used an i7 940 @3.7, and measured under 500W peak at the wall. I say you'll be fine.

Here is a visual for you:
Power consumption is 198 watts at idle and 428w at load
hardwarecanucks

And here. straight from anandtech's reviews:
Idle power at 249w and load power is 452w
LINK

I dont think your 600w PSU meets the requirements to run this card Jephph.

Yeah so....425W at load for the entire system....and they are measuring AC power draw. Even if their PSU was 90% efficient that is 382W.

Let's assume they aren't pushing it to the brink in their tests and say it draws 430W DC power...that is still only 71% of the OCZ's rated output.

I still think he should upgrade if he plans on such high overclocking, but you may want to check your attitude when you keep telling others that they don't know what they are talking about.

Spacegoast is spreading PSU requirement misinformation throughout the forum

The very reviews and tests he links shows systems pulling 4-500W, and he still says a 600w PSU isn't enough...

Use your common sense here ;)

Also measured at the wall.

Since when is 600W not enough for a 400W load?

My mistake, my mistake, it was late last night and I was reading everything all wrong .

Maybe I was thinking the power draw on those links were just for the GPU alone, but 600w is still cutting it close. Especially if overclocking will be done to the GPU and CPU.
