Suddenly slow PC when routed with iBook

Hello,

I have a PC running XP and an iBook G3 OS 9.1 sharing an ADSL connection through a SMC7004VBR router.

All was well until a few days ago, now when the iBook is plugged in to the router (regardless of power on/off or network activity of the iBook) the PC's internet connection is virtually stopped. The iBook's connection is fine, regardless of the PC. Just having the iBook physically plugged into the router seems to completely slow down the PC's connection. As soon as the iBook is unplugged, the PC is fine.

I can't think of any changes I made before this began to occur.

Thank you for any advice,

plasma

Maybe the port on your iBook went bad. Try a pcmcia ethernet adapter.

No PCMCIA slot on iBooks.

Hmm, usb ethernet adapter then? The iBook has to have usb right?

If not, you could build/buy a loopback doodad and test if your iBook's nic is working.

It's got USB. 😛

Since the mac was working fine I didn't think to question its network adaptor. I'll try to get hold of a usb ethernet adaptor to test it. Thanks for the suggestion.
