Sudden, unexplained video wierdness

O.K. I have had a very stable system for quite some time, but last night, in the middle of usign a graphics program to print out some Valentine cards, my system locked up.

I have a Voodoo 2000 card that is has been mildly overclocked at 160mhz for the past year, and I think it may have expired.

What is weird to me is that I have lost my mouse - even in SAFE MODE. I guess the mouse driver is not even loading. Which suggests maybe a software problem. But, Like I said, reverting back to prior saved registry configurations hasn't helped, and no software changes were occuring at the time of the crash.

Yeah, its a ps/2 mouse.

Just frigging dead. It first tries to go into Normal (not safe mode) but a striped Blue Screen of Death flashes up for a 1/10 of a second - to fast to read the error message. It is stripped in that it is all broken up, with black lines running throught it.

Ok I'll take a risky shot that could make a fool out of me. 😉 Video memory gone bad. GPU should be OK or you would get a black screen, trying to switch into higher resolution is too much for the vid card. Of course I could be wrong and I probably am. Try another vid card.

Now everybody laugh at me. 😀

Hey, that was what I was going to try tonight - swap out a video card. A wise recommendation.

Has anyone ever fried a video card by overclocking? I had a Banshee card that, when hot, would lock up, too.

Maybe this is a good opportunity to get that cheap Radeon LE card.
