Sudden system restart when using cpu cooling

I don't know why but when I try to use a cpu cooling program, CpuIdle Pro and CPUCOOL, my system would restart a few minutes later. It restarts immediately if I run any audio program such as Winamp and Media Player, the computer would restart immediately (although not always until I use the seek which would cause it to restart).

Is this a problem with my MB, OS, or the soundcard, or all of them? I'm running Windows XP Pro.

This is my system.

You shouldn't need CPUIDLE or CPUCool with Windows XP, since the HLT command is included as part of the System Idle thread.

In any case, there are a number where the HLT command itself has been disabled on various motherboard BIOSes due to problems. Since you haven't put down the model of your board, I can't say whether it has.

Looks like using the HLT command on your processor kills it (which is why the HLT command was disabled on many boards in the first place).

I really don't know the MB mkaer is but the system is an IBM Aptiva 2174 model 590. So far all I've is a sticker on a chip with Acer BIOS ver....(I don't remember)

The board has the imprints Mainboard S30. I've searched motherboards.org, but it's an unresolved case.

The BIOS is :

Oddly I am having the same issue on an HP Vectra VLi8, on linux boot it _always reboots_ about 2 seconds after "Checking HLT..." Similar symptoms in win2k and XP... But not 98... I wonder if this is the same issue, My resolution was to throw the damn thing out but now I may be persuaded to recover it since it has a nice BX board in it. Good luck.
