Hey

Seem to be having a problem with a custom PC which I built in January. The specification is as followed:

  • EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2048MB
  • Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
  • Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic
  • Lian Li PC-A55A Aluminium Midi Tower Case - Silver
  • Corsair Dominator PLATINUM 8GB
  • Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
  • Toshiba (7K1000.D) 1TB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA100) HDD
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler

The machine seems to have the issue where it will suddenly power down and refuse to turn back on without unplugging the machine from the mains. Which is very bizarre. The motherboard indicates power during this (LED indicator) however refuses to boot up until power is completely discharged.

I have had a little investigation into this myself and believe it may be something to do with the PSU? I don't believe the issue to be related to temperatures as both GPU and CPU seem to run relatively low.

The machine will shutdown inconsistently both during high process tasks (Gaming) and lengthy periods of time. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all and others it suddenly does.

Would appreciate any support/advice with getting this issue resolved.

Did you overclock your pc? If not, try a different PS, MB or Rams.
That's all i can think of. Good luck!!

You can swap out the GS600 and test with a known good PSU although what you're describing is a common complaint for a PSU that's headed south; and the GS600 has some known issues. If you picked it up in January, RMA shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds like PSU problem. Can you see if the fan is spinning? Usually they trip like that due to over temp, or over current, but you shouldn't be having a problem with either on your setup.

If you have the option, try cranking up the airflow in the case just in case something isn't getting circulation. Also check for loose wires, or anything potentially shorting.
