This really only happens when I'm playing games. So I imagine its a video issue maybe?

In any event...my system locks up in the middle of a game...does it quite a bit...after maybe 30-40 minutes.

So at first I thought my 1000@1150 tbird was maybe getting to hot...its not...I clocked it back down to 1ghz and it still does it.

My system:

1ghz@1150 Tbird
256mb Mosel pc143
msi k7t
soundblaster live
ibm 60gb 75gxp
64mb Hercules GTS PRO

I think thats all that matters.
One other thing...it makes a beeping noise like a heart monitor would during a flat line...although its much louder and high pitched.

Anyways...I cant cntl-alt-del...have to power down and power back up

any ideas?

hmmm,
I once had a similar problem. turned out to be memory. If you can get hold of a manual for your motherboard it will tell you what the beep means.

its not a beep coming through the speaker...its coming through the headphones or my desktop speakers...and its VERY Loud...scares the crap out of me when I'm wearing headphones...its not a mobob beep

half-life is the only game I really play anymore...so I cant say that it woudl happen during q3, ut, etc.

But cooling is an option....I've noticed it never happens quickly...takes at least 40 minutes....so cooling makes sense to me. I'll see if I can get something to cool it down.

i would go with the video card cooling idea. try leaving the case open with a fan on and see if it doesn't lock or takes longer. if so, you know what it is and you can buy a better hsf for your geforce2.
