sucks about owning new cars

In the past 2 years, I've been hit 3 times. First, I had a 2000 corolla, which was pretty new when it first got hit by a guy in a big ass pickup. Then, the same car got run over by a big rig. Naturally the car was totalled and I got a 2003 accord.

So last month, some one else hit me in a parking lot and the body shop can't really fix it to new. I'm about ready to just sell it off and buy an old tank volvo 740 like I used to have.

I use an old Chevy Van as my beater/commuter vehicle.

I bought it used with like 250,000 miles,and it has 278,000+ now,

if it gets hit in a parking lot,etc. Oh well.


Sux to have stuff you own damaged.

yeah unfortunately I can't keep two cars where I am now. Else I would buy a POS beater and like a sports car.

The thing is these aren't even nice cars and although I've thought about buying like a G35, god damn i'd be pissed off if I had a car that nice and people kept hitting it.

Heh, that sucks. I use my old Jeep as a daily driver most of the time so I can keep the other two in fairly good shape.

It isn't worth it to buy/own a nice car any more. There are too many assholes who will deliberately scratch/dent/ding/scrape/deface it for no reason at all.

That's why I just buy used now.

I have an '04 Accord. I'm starting to notice door dings and a small dent on my rear bumper. I'm fortunate that I don't get into major accidents but it sucks that people don't respect my property.

I used to have a 1977 Chevy Nova, nobody ever bothered with it. But then I started to have money after getting a real job, then silly me, I dabbled with the idea of having a newer car. First a Subaru Legacy, with was a shopping cart magnet, then a pickup side-swiped it. After that, I had a Toyota Camry, which people thought it was a chalk board for their keys, then one day, an old lady with a Ford minivan put it out of its misery. Anyway, I currently have an 05 Subaru Forester, which has had several closed call already. For some reason, people driving minivans, pickups and SUV have little regards for other cars.

I've driven beaters for daily commuting forever. Saves wear & tear on the good car, and you don't have to worry about the stupid thing. If you buy compatible cars, you can donate old parts from the good vehicle to the old one.

why would you want take parts off your good vehicle?

What you need to get a jack-up kit for your rice mobiles and lift that car 6 feet from the ground. Watch the fear in people's eyes when you cruise around the parking lot.

Parts wear out & die. When the battery pukes in my beater, I buy a new battery for the good car, and throw its half used battery in the beater. I've done that with tires, wiper blades, rotors and other miscellaneous parts. Sometimes I'll throw a part at the good car, in an effort to troubleshoot a problem, only to find that component wasn't the problem. That means the part taken off is still usable. It goes on the shelf, and gets used in the beater at some later date. It really pays to have compatible cars!

about a month ago... i was sitting in my car waiting for class and i see this guy looking at his car... he stood there for about a minute just staring at it and i'm wondering what the hell is he doing. he gets in the car and drives off and right by the door there was almost a foot long dent about an inch deep from the middle. that fscking sucks.

..had the same problem years ago..was rearended numerous times at stop signs and signals. Nothing worse then being a magnet for morons.

Shame, those Acuras are sharp looking imho.

My personal observations are that people stay out of accidents if they drive predictably.

IE.. When you stop at a light don't roll forward until you are absolutely sure you are going. Don't cut across parking lots. Leave enough distance to slow to a stop for you and the car behind you, because the car behind you most likely isn't.

Parking defensively is tricky because you can't really help what happens to your car but you can avoid some of it. Park against the wind on a blustery day since it tends to rip other car doors past the midpoint stops and into your side panel. Parking at the end of the lot means your car is a target for people cutting through the lot and malicious people. I've had luck parking near the fringe of the occupied spaces. Seems to be a lower turnover of cars. I also try to park uphill from where shopping cars collect but not on a slope since people seem to find it impossible to control their door from falling past the midpoint doorstop when it?s on a hill.

In parking lots I park far away from the entrance to the store and NEVER park near those damn shopping cart returns. I was near one one time and found two $@^%^# shopping carts against my BRAND NEW CAR. I got pissed, picked each cart up over my head and parked them myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU LAZY MOFOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you're going to walk the cart to the cart return, do so properly and PARK IT! I swear if I saw someone pushing thier cart against my car the cart would go through thier windshield!

I know what its like. Both accidents I've been in, I was stopped at a stoplight and rear-ended. The only thing I could have done to avoid them was to have ridden my bicycle those days. :|
