You can check out Filipino places in the Bay Area as well. Most of them sell lechon, which is their version of a whole roasted pig. You might be able to buy one whole from them.

I live on the coast opposite the bay area, but I'm Italian and from the Philadelphia area. Therefore, I know with certainty that the best place to start for any sort of pork product is with a butcher. If you don't know one, google it, and call until you get the answer you want. Butchers are meat professionals, they will find you what you're looking for.

If you're really in a bind, something tells me Dean and Deluca could probably source one for you, but it will cost you a lot.

If you are sure you want to roast it yourself:

Otherwise, if you want one already roasted, look for the places in the city where Asians converge, then find the places that hang roast ducks and other animals in the window. They will usually let you order one. If you're in the South Bay, King Egg Roll is a good place to order from. I think that's where my mom ordered the one for my wedding...

Are you talking about the kind that Chinese people eat at feasts? Although it's probably not the best quality, at least you can get roast pig @ Ranch 99. You very likely will need to order in advance, unlike the roast duck which they usually have a couple of.

Wish I could give the name of a nice, legit restaurant.

If you drive to SF Chinatown, there are tons and tons at the delis all over, and those are probably going to be bomb ass.
