Suck it Holiday Inn!

GoingUp

Lifer
So as some of you have read, I am in the process of relocating to a new job. I have been staying in a hotel for the past 16 days and I will be here a couple more. I am staying in a hoilday inn select.

I've probably spent about $1800 so far in room rates plus room service while I've been here. We get these little coupons for our complimentary breakfast in the morning. I accidentally took mine to work with me in my leather binder and I left the binder at work. I slept in this morning and went to the desk to ask for a replacement coupon for my breakfast today and they wouldn't give me one! They told me to drive to work and back and then I could eat breakfast. Breakfast was ending in 20 minutes so there is no way that I could have physically made it.

I even asked if he could just give me a coupon so that I could eat breakfast and then I could go to work and get the coupons and give him one back. He wouldn't even do that. "Let me get this straight, I've spent over $1800 at your hotel and you can't issue me a temporary coupon for breakfast?" The answer? "No, we can't do that."

Don't ever stay at a Holiday Inn.

Seriously, it's not like the cost of breakfast is a major portion of your nightly rate...it's what, $5 max out of their pocket, even if you don't bring the ticket back!

Poor judgement on their part.

sorry to hear about your bad experience

when i travel, i prefer to stay at smaller hotels than the large chain ones b/c the service seems to be friendly and more personal

I used to stay at that chain to...never again...they screwed my account up so many times at the same place so I moved onto a new hotel chain.

That person should not be in the "Hospitality" industry.

You really should send a report of this to corporate.

Not just for how you were treated, which was terrible, but how someone like this will treat others if not reported.

I called corporate and they called the hotel for me. The managers reponse was to tell me that I could have a coupon but if I didnt return it he was going to charge it to my credit card. He sent someone up from the desk to apologize but wasn't man enough to do it himself. And the whole frigging point of me eating breakfast 40 minutes before he made this offer was that I had places to go and things to do today. I am in the process of packing up my things as I am checking out of the hotel.

leave, tell them you are calling corp right now and you will telling them the managers name, and that you will be staying at another hotel, they will fall over back wards to help you

Sounds good that you're checking out. I'd call back corporate and let them know that the manager was still an ass, didn't even apologize himself and you have since checked out because of his actions.

we do business with a local one, cleaning their guests clothes if they need some drycleaning, and almost always have problems getting them to settle their accounts properly. we have similar problems with a hampton inn and a comfort inn in the area, all 3 owners/operators know each other; and they all suck.

^This man is wise. 🙂

As a former employee and shift manager of a Holiday Inn, I would recommend calling the corporate office and explain the situation. I have never heard of corporate calling a hotel. I would insist that you be compenasted some way for this inconvienence. I have seen room rate reduced for a stay, or even free nights. The dining room has also offered free meals for a day, when they have inconvienced a guest. I would not let this manager get away with this sort of action.

well thats my $.02.

Good luck

oh and I am not a bitter ex employee

Some Holiday Inns are franchises, right? This may be a penny pinching franchisee. . .

Well I checked out of the hotel. My final bill was $1961 for my stay. I am now down the street in a Marriott. I should have stayed at the Marriott in the first place seeing as how I'm a platnium member, my room is bigger and the rate per night is cheaper. My company is covering all of my expenses, but I still kick myself for not checking into the marriott like I first wanted to.

I'll never stay at a Holiday Inn again, and I plan to write a letter to the company telling them that.

Marriott > Holiday Inn by far. There's no real comparison.

 for agreement.

Yeah I went to a Holdiday Inn Express and had a horrible experience also.

We pulled in at about 3am at Sturgis, Indiana after a drive through Chicago, Wisconsin and such. I should have turned away to go to some other place when they said I had to be 21 to get a room (me being 20), but my spidey senses were muffled by the long drive and drowsyness. They continued to tell me they had no more non-smoking residences so I am forced to take a smoking one (which happens to be the last room available). I agree after some persauding that they "air out" the room daily and keep it smelling nice (and well lets face it, I was tired as dirt).

We get to the room and it is worst smell in the world, its like some weird mold smell along with the musky tobacco consuming all air within. I sigh and switch the AC on and get to sleep.

WHIRRRRR CRUNCH WHIRRRRRR WHIRRRRRRR.... I wake up thinking "What the F##K?" Its the retarded AC being loud as ever. I look at my watch and notice its only been 30 minutes. So I have to decide this wonderful ultimatum; Do I turn off the AC and fry like a lobster in this musky room or do I leave it on and endure being woken up every 30 minutes by the disgruntled retard of an air conditioner.

I will just say my night was unpleasant and I woke up more tired then I was when I arrived at the satan spawn they call Holiday Inn Express. I went to the front counter and demanded reconciliation (after I ate my free breakfast I might add). They told me they could take off $5 from my NORMAL bill even though I was forced to take a smoking room. I told them they must do better if they want me to pay at all, I could have had a better nights sleep in that grass field adjacent to here. They finally take off $12 of about $80 and I am sick of arguing so I take it and leave.

Holiday Inn can die a firey death and I implore everyone to dodge this place like a bullet with AIDS on it.

That sucks man.

Some people are SO stingy.

Marriott's are often dumps as well. I've stayed in them before.

By the way, the breakfast at the Holiday Inn is nothing to write home about. Better to stay at a Embassy Suites hotel where evening booze and breakfast is included, and breakfast is made to order. Not that cheap flavorless crap you get in other hotels.

Yea, that really frosted my cookies. And it's not like I was asking for a free one when everyone else pays! I'm supposed to get a complimentary one every morning!

Never stayed in a bad Marriott... Yes, Embassy Suites are awesome and so are Doubletrees, but they're in another price range.

Speaking of which, Gobadgrs, how much will your employer pay?
