lieberman's and Goredo's true colors are really comming out in all of this mess, I never thought I could see anyone more disrespectful than the high moron himself Klinton, but two people proved me wrong, goredo and lieberman are taking the cake

Since when is the Reverend Jesse Jackson running for political office?

Gore and Lieberman can't control the people and it isn't like the democrats set up the protests, Jesse Jackson and co. did.

..... and Bush did not set up the republican protest either, and he can't control the 'people' either right? Then where does Loserman get the nerve to go on TV and attack the repubican protestors when his own people do the same (much more frequently I might add).

DNC telemarketing doesn't count as setting up protests?

Those Republican protesters were on wages though.

So are all of Gore's lawyers that the DNC flew into Florida the day after the election.

No !! DABANSHEE

They were all locals.. They were not paid... They were not from out of state....They were pissed about violation of the Florida sunshine law that requires all meetings of public officials to be held in public...

Florida has probably the most stringent Open meeting laws in the USA. The only things that can be excluded from the open attendance of citizens, are meetings for legal proceedings where lawyer client priviledge is involved.

I am sure you don't have such laws in OZ. Most of the USA does not have laws that require such open proceedings. Florida even requires that all communication from one public official to another such as letters & email, be available to the public.

Yep, when we Australians vote we know who won within 24 hours & that's with every single vote in the country counted by hand (with each counter having a both a labour & conservative scrutineer looking over his/her shoulders). & Yet here we have Florida counties that can't count all their votes in 5 days. Plus it was a simple pick your only choice vote, here in Oz its a preferential vote where one has a choice of ticking their favorite candidate's box or numbering all candidates in order of preference.

You'd think if Dade County could work out that it would take 2 weeks to count its votes, then it could just treble or quadruple its count employees to get the vote in by the court deadline.

You'd think the bureaucrats who designed the butterfly ballots (commonsense dictats there should be only one box next to each candidates name) are the same as the ones in charge of the re-counts - havent they heard of temp staff - they should have at least quadrupled their count staff the day the re-count was ordered & hired the local indoor basketball stadium.

Also As far as the election is concerned. It does seem a bit strange that every state & also many different counties have different ballot systems, even though its a Federal election, with the same candidates name on every ballot nationwaide.

Common sense dictates there should be just the one ballot paper for the whole nation, with all 9 candidates in one columne & then a columne off to the right, with a single box next to each name. This whole thing where depending where you are, there are punch cards, or 'fill the bubble' ballots, or on-screen computer ballots, or keypads, or levers & even old fashioned (Oz style) 'X marks the vote' ballots, & then there are some places where all votes are of the mail-in variety; is bloody ridiculous for a federal poll.

Also no way should they have local, state or federal politicians, involved in the decision making process - look at the way the local Democratic officals in Palm Beach OKed a hand count, which was cancelled by a Republican SoS who was Bush's co-campaign manager. They both should have stepped aside because of perceived conflict of interest.

Even better the US should have the same system as we have in Oz, where a Federal Election Commission (that politicians have no say in) control all federal elections & run them & the buck stops at a panel of judges. Each state also has a State Electoral Commission for administring the State & local elections. No politicians are involved anywhere, the only way anyone can get a re-count or stop a re-count is to apply to the court. Unless of course the electoral Commission decides on a recount for some reason - But this is unlikely as we have very simple ballots (just a list of names, with just one box next to each name & all one has to do is either just tick their choice of candidate or number them in order of preference, then all votes are counted by hand & each counter has a conservative & Labour scrutineer looking over his/her shoulders. Useally we know who's won on the night).

I was watching the news & some bloke said that those Republican demonstraters who were shouting & screaming & banging on doors & chairs (very mature, aye)obliviously with the intent to intimedate the Dade County election officials were paid Republican activists bused in from interstate.

The funny thing is I saw Bush intervewed on telly saying he would accept the ruling of the courts, then he changed his mind afterwards.

Really both Gore & Bush can do what ever they need to do to succeed, as long as its within the laws of the land. So it doesnt matter what any of us think or say.

Anyway who truelly beleive Bush or Gore wouldn't be doing what their opposite numbers are doing if the situation was reversed is an idiot.

The simple fact is that as Gore got the mandate of the majority (even 50% plus one vote is a majority) he's duty bound to his voters to do what he can, within the law to win. I doubt he would have gone to the courts if he didn't have the popular vote.

Sure if Bush wins the Florida electoral college votes he's president (unless 3 of them 'cross the floor'), but the fact remains he won't have the mandate of the majority.

Apparently 3 US states have a system where there electoral college votes are divided proportionately in accordance with the federal vote in those particular states - or so I've heard (even ifs its a small state with just 3 EC votes that's possible - say in such a state Bush got 53% of the vote, Gore 45% & a 3rd party candidate got 2%, then Gore would get 1 electoral college vote & Bush would get a electoral college vote to, then the party that had a majority of the last 3rd of the vote would get an extra electoral college vote, which would then go to Bush, to, so he'd get 2 votes & Gore 1 vote in such a scenerio) Wouldn't it be better if the rest of the states also had the electoral college votes divided up proportionately in accordance with the vote in each state.

You are kidding yourself if you REALLY think they were all locals. It's been widely reported that Republicans are coming in from other states. From CNN:

<< MANY of the Republican protesters in Broward County were unhappy with critics who say the GOP has brought in out-of-state support to rattle south Florida canvassers.
?Because someone paid for my hotel room, because someone paid for my plane ticket, I?m a thug?? asked Terry Benham, a Little Rock, Ark., lobbyist. Another sign in the crowd read: ?We are not from Rent-A-Mob.?

15,000 absentee ballots are at stake in a trial starting on Monday in Seminole County. The Republican Elections Supervisor called her Republican friends and had them come in and put numbers on the Republican absentee ballots only. State law requires that the voter number the envelope himself. The Democratic Party ballots without numbers were disqualified.

All 15,000 ballots are at risk. About 9,000 are for Bush.

It ain't over till it's over.
