Successfully defended my dissertation

Well I finally finished the last hurdle to becoming a PhD (Chemical engineering at the University of Nebraska). The defense is more of a technicality than anythign else - a last chance for professors to make you squirm for a few minutes. Everything went smoothly (bribing them with pizza before hand helped).

Afterwords I wanted to do something as mindless as possible. Monty Python and the Holy Grail seemed like the best answer. So I went out and rented it*. Haven't seen that about a decade. I could have watched the rabbit scene and the bridge scene for hours if my friends weren't there.

Thanks for everyone here for directly or indirectly helping with my research.

* I'm still shocked to this day that places will rent out such classic movies for a week for just 48 cents. They don't know what the movie is worth to those who want to watch it.

good job! Is it going to get published?

<-- no idea what happens to dissertations
I have to supply two copies to the library. As far as I know, I have no choice but to sign away permission for them to microfilm it. Then people who want to read it they have a choice (1) get an interlibrary loan and check one of the two books out for a few weeks or (2) purchase a reprint from the microfilm. I get a measly few percent royalty on purchases (which I expect to be $0 in my lifetime). Other than that, if I wanted to I could try to get someone to publish it (not going to happen).

(Though I think a better choice in movies would have been Brazil..)
Never saw it. What is Brazil like?

Good film. Have you ever seen Woody Allen's "Sleeper?"

Its a little like that, but much darker and funnier.

Its a pretty biting satire of beurocracy. I spel reel guud.

Congrats, Dr. Dullard! 🙂

Someday I'd love to be able to go back and get a Ph.d too, if time and $$$ allows.

NOTE: the capital of Assyria is Nineveh 😀

Cheers,
