i took a risk and flashed my p4t-e with the p4t533-c bios. before doing this i was only able to overclock my p4 1.6a to 2.1 GHz since i was limited to a 133 fsb. now with the new bios i am pushing it to 2.2 GHz (138/34). i noticed that i had to increase the voltage to 1.6V. i am scared to go any further since i don't want to damage my cpu or other components. the rambus had to be set to 3x of course. temperatures under a full load seem to be steady at 41 to 45C. during idle it stays at 35C. i hope these results are good. should i try and overclock higher? my video card is overclocked as well. i have a gainward geforce 3 ti-200 (128MB). will overclocking the CPU affect my video card overclock?

im also a newbie and wonder this. in addition, does anyone know if i need to take this thermal pad off the retail heatsink to apply arctic silver and overclock my 1.6a? (i have the heatsink and it has a pad on the bottom with black stuff that i rubbed off. do i put the arctic on the pad, or do i take the pad off and then put silver on and then put it on the cpu and oc away?)

thanks :)

Which setup is faster?

2.13 GHz PC1066
or
2.2 GHz PC828

I would think the gain in CPU MHz would be lost in mem BW.

I would push it farther if you can. I wouldn't go any higher than 1.7 Vcore.

in order to take that black pad off the bottom i used nail polish remover. then i applied a dab of artic silver on the bottom of the heatsink. i don't know if this is the right way but that's what i did and things seem to be working fine.

You should apply a thin coat of AS to the entire surface of the CPU IHS. A dab on the HS is not the right way to apply it.

True...when he said
the rambus had to be set to 3x of course.
I read it as he had to drop to 3X from 4X. Not that I read it again, he was probably 3X both times.
