well, after a unsuccessful reformat the other day (errors up the wazoo, numerous bsods, bascially very ugly), i reformatted again today, reinstalled everything, and was very careful, and lo and behold, no errors!

until....

i realized i DIDNT BACK UP MY STUFF.
i lost about 30 cd's of music that i ripped, a folder full of digital camera pics, some important emails, etc. etc.

Formatting all of my systems today and tomorrow. I'm on my server right now which is getting all the important stuff saved to it.

oh man, I totally know how you feel. I did the same thing last summer when I installed a new hdd. during the process of hooking up the new hdd, I reformated the wrong drive letter thus erasing my entire drive!!! to make it worse, I was installing a new mobo at the time as well and happened to static shock my athlon 1ghz. :( It was about the worst time in my life... till I won a new AthlonXP 1800+ and mobo, then all was well in the world again (minus the 10+ GB of missing MP3's and pics)

All may not be lost. I understand there's software out there which can recover data after a format, but I don't recall what it was called. Never had to use it, as I keep data and the OS on different drives.

i sort of did that once on purpose. I didn't feel like sorting through and reorganizing all my music, so I just didn't back it up and formatted to start over. I saved all the important stuff. I don't think i would actually lose anything but a couple saved games if that happened right now except maybe a few cd rips

well, its not a HUGE loss, i just have to spend a few days re-ripping all those cds... which takes extra long because of EAC...
and i think i have backups of the digital pics...

I got 2 drives, one for my stuff that needs to be saved, and one for my os and backup stuff...

so that way if one or the other does go bad, I aint totally screwed...
