I've seen many products that raise the woofer off the ground. What effect does this have on the sound?

You want all the subs energy/movement to move the air. Not the floor. Your floor doesn't make a good speaker.

Generally the effect is less "boom"

Yes. I've made my own for now (horrazy knex!)and am wondering what effect it will have.
