The smaller the room, the higher up the room transfer function starts.
I think at the wavelength equal to the longest dimension in the room, you start to get a 6db/octave increase in efficiency from that frequency on down.

In other woords, it is actually easier to achieve good bass in a car or small room, than in a large home Theater room.

So its quicktime. How do I move it to my system. Someone turn it into another format so my xbox can stream and I can scare my neighbors.

I think the next generation subs will start to be smaller with the same output as the old bigger is better bit going out the window.

true but you can learn better means of effeciency. take a 10" solo baric from 4 years ago and a 10" solo from today, the magnet is tiny bit bigger, the spyder is greatly improved, now the 10" of today is nearly the equivelent output of the 12" solo from 4 years ago.

Marketing.
If it does anything differently, it simply reaches its limit at a lower wattage. Unless they doubled the excursion, it is not nearly as good as the driver of years ago.

Take the surface area and multiply that by the excursion. The resulting volume is an absolute limt for a driver and a great way to compare subs.

bingo.

You can make a small sub work very well. You just need a whole lot of excursion and a crapload of power (thousands of watts).

Hoffman's Iron Law.

Hoffman's Iron Law states that the efficiency of a woofer system is directly proportional to its cabinet volume and the cube of its cutoff frequency (the lowest frequency it can usefully reproduce).

Glen is right.
