The 15" HF series is best in a 4.6 - 5.2 cubic foot enclosure. Im using the 15" HF with a bash 500 watt amp in a 21" cube and it is simply awesome. You might want to considered the HO 15". You can put those in even smaller enclosures. They don't go as low, but the have a little less distortion. Its a trade off but might be worth it.

The issue is cost. You'll be looking around $450 - 475 when its all said and done with materials.

Cut out size is 17" overall diameter is 18" it's tight, but I've done it before. Down firing would work, you would just see the edge of the frame. Double baffling it would let the frame taper back a bit before it is actually in the box.

I modeled it in bass box pro and for a critically dampened box (qtc of. 707) it required 3cuft of total volume including driver displacement.

The 250 plate amp is on sale for $119 right now bringing sub and amp to $245 shipped. You could buy a sheet of mdf and a sheet of black laminate for about $70.

I would think you could do it for $350. But raw unfinished for under $300.
 
Oh that's why. We are talking about two different Dayton subs. The higher end home theater subs are the HF and HO series. They make an HO 18" but it runs $250. That 250 watt amp would be under powered for the HF/HO series. I honestly didn't realize they had a classic series. Everyone on AVS recommends the HF/HO and that's what I thought we were talking about.
 
A HF/HO would be nice, but too much $. BBP predicts 7mm (ish) excursion (@ 300 watts) , the sub is good for 8.3 so 250-300 watts would be a good match for the classic.
 
Seriously, I'd put more money into a center/mains than wasting it on front surrounds.

I have yet to see them even make a difference except in a freaking huge room (like a 5 row deep home theater room).

What's your full setup?

Denon 2310CI and a bunch of junk speakers. I had planned to replace them but never got around to it and when I moved to my new house with my wife, she set "guidelines" on what could be in the living room. So it is a long battle of convincing her to let me put larger speakers in the room. I do not need uber quality, but something decent. I can't see myself spending more than $300 or $400 on any one speaker.

I like some of the Klipsch reference stuff and was leaning that way.

Reference is good for wife factor...Palladium even more so (lolz)

Lots of great deals on Klipsch in the market as those that get bitten keep upgrading and those that go too hard in, have to sell it off quick.
