My friend has an old kicker sub with dual voice coil 4ohm.

We are wondering if the amp I have on my shelf will run it.

Im thinking it should if we bridged the amp and ran the sub in parallel. Or am I wrong?

That amp claims 250w x 2 at 2ohms. Or 500x1 at 4. It's the same load to the amp.

There is no way to run a DVC 4ohm sub at a total load of 4 ohms. You can do series for 8 ohms (340w from amp) or parallel for 2 ohms (smoked amp; same as trying to run it in 1ohm stereo).

Depending on the actual sub model, 340w may be more than enough power.

He can run with a single VC. It would need to be a 1000W sub to handle 500W in a single voice coil, though.

True, but I figured he probably did not have that kind of 'serious business' subwoofer. And that's very much not an optimal thing...AFAIK running a single coil would completely change the T/S parameters of the sub.

Also I dunno how pumping extra power through half the number of windings versus less power through all of them would actually translate from an electromagnetic perspective...since the permanent magnet is a constant, my brain wants to say that 250w through all the windings is similar to 500w through half, but I think it's a lot more complex than that.
