Subway's fresh baked bread is awesome.

Can't stand subway

I like Jersey Mike's bread better than Jimmy Johns. Jimmy's is good but a little too dense. Jersey Mikes is light with a nice crunchy crust.

That's funny, you must think it's so ludicrous that someone would praise subway that they must be trolling.

I was referring to those that trolled that food festival in the Netherlands you linked to with McDonald's appetizers billed as premium menu items.

The grocery store

Don't forget those amazing new stores they call "bakeries." I hear you can get tons of different breads baked daily.

On another note, when did 'convenience' assume such a high priority as to make discussing second rate food at third rate eateries commonplace?

While I've been known to eat at Subway, words like "high-quality" simply don't apply unless you live somewhere completely devoid of quality deli's.

Further since the demise of almost all of the $5 foot-long choices on the menu its not in any way a good deal unless you get a special or have a coupon.

The $5 foot long was only removed from corporate stores recently, many privately owned ones are still doing them.

They have a $6 combo meal deal which with a 6" sub, bag of chips and a drink is more than enough food for most out there. You can still double the meat and/or upgrade to a foot long at many locations.

Around here they were doing the 6" meatball or cold cut combo $2.

Unfortunately it's been gone from all the stores I've checked out recently in CT for some time with the exception of the monthly specials.

In fact I went to a couple stores last week looking for one of the widely advertised $2 meatball 6-incher's you mentioned and neither one wanted to sell me one!

Just giving credit where credit is due. It's tempting for some here to mindlessly knee-jerk hate on big chains. But in this case, Subway actually has fresh baked breads with a variety of ingredients from jalapeno cheddar to Italian herbs to whole grain oats.

Most sub places only offer white or wheat.

Defend your crappy bread all you want :)

I'll keep buying from real bakers! :)

The $2 6" deal officially started 12/1 and ends 12/31.

I love jimmy johns bread. It has my favorite texture/taste combo for standard sandwich bread.

Sure, if you like day old dinner rolls, Jimmy John's is probably great bread.

I went to a Jersey Mike's recently. It was just white bread, lettuce, tomato, and deli meat. Talk about bland.

Subway has a vastly greater variety of ingredients.

Jersey Mike's ingredient quality is excellent IMO. I've only been once, but I thought the quality was better than Subway. I like Subway on occasion, but I do pick and choose my toppings based on how it looks in the bin at that particular time.

if you're at JM you (should) get everything Mike's Way.

All Cold Subs include Mike's Way® with Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Vinegar, Oil and Spices. Any combination gladly accepted

I find JM very representative of the bomb ass sandwiches I got in NJ.

I've been to many mom and pop sub shops. None offer the variety of bread that subway does. And I doubt any of them are fresh baked daily either.

I sorta agree, Most mom and pop shops I've been to offer 1 type of bread. The ones that offer more, it's always something simple like Rye or whole wheat or something. I want Jalapeno Cheddar bread, not going to find that at a hole in the wall shop. I'm almost positive if Penn & Teller did another fast food Bullshit episode but this time used Subway bread on mom and pop sandwiches and mom and pop bread on Subway and got peoples feedback it would be all fucked up. Their fast food episode was fucking awesome, to see people eating Taco Bell that they thought was from a nice sit down place

"OMG THIS IS SO GOOD tastes just like home cooking This taco salad is delicious!"

To me Subway bread isn't great or terrible, I've eaten sandwiches at about 200 different places and only maybe 3 or 4 had memorable bread. *shrug*
