josphII: Excellent addition to my post (2nd one). I don't understand how people can miss stuff like that when they defend democrats.

The way I understand things states like California that have a referendum process enacted these provisions under progressive populist reforms in the early 20th century as a way for citizens to do an end run around the politicians. Up until Proposition 13 they made very little news and were not used all that much. The recall process is part and parcel of those reforms and while you may not like it it seems to have been all done in accordance with California law so I do not see how it can be called a subversion of democracy. Quite the contrary given its history it is really democracy in its raw form with the citizens directly voting to determine whether the governor stays or goes. I suspect that once this is all said and done California may want to revisit the recall laws and raise the percentage requirements to make recalls such as this more difficult to pull off.

that article just shows what sore losers democrats are.

1) clinton was impeached because he lied under oath. im not sure if this warranted him being removed but i certainly understand the position of those that wanted him removed. unlike democrats, i understand the meaning of integrity and dont believe in vast right wing conspiracies.

2) in forlida the republicans were the only ones fighting FOR democracy. gore was pushing for libral vote standards in counties that supported him, and not pushing these same standards in counties that were bush strongholds. he wanted the overseas military vote thrown out despite the fact that these folks had no control over when their ballots got to them and the speed in which the ballots returned to florida. then there was the democratic led florida supreme court which IGNORED every florida law designed to make sure the vote count process was accurate. and lets not forget that there were numerous recounts, triggered both by law and at the request of Gore. bush was the winner each and every time

3) Texas - so when democrats redraw redistricting lines thats OK but when republicans try to do it its unfair? absurd.

4) California - one of the few things that is agreed upon by republicans and democrats is that gay davis needs to go. something like 30% of the collected signatures were by democrats. davis' approval rating in april conducted by California Field Poll was 24% - the lowest percentage since the polling started 55 years ago. and what is so wrong with holding someone accountable for their actions? he is a horrible govenor and the people are now saying "GET OUT!" although i do believe the recall process needs to be reformed, the process represents democracy in its purist form.

1. Clinton was hounded by a bunch of right winged scum who hounded him for years and spent millions combing through his life. If it weren't for Monica they would be searching still. They got for all their vituperate hate exactly nothing real.

2. In Florida the Republicans disenfranchised the black vote. They sent Senate staffers from Washington to disrupt the count. The succeeded in stealing the election that Gore won.

3. The redraw is every ten years.

4 Davis was elected a month before the recall as the majority vote getter in the state. The problems he has are mostly from the collapse of the national economy and Bush buddy energy thieves. He has done adequately as governor as testified by one of SF's right wing hawks. We will soon see how many want him recalled.

Your four points are a pathetic pack of lies.

clinton could have made things a whole lot cheaper/easier if he hadn't constantly lied about what he did. i agree too many resources went to into investigating him. thats the way he wanted it.

proof?

3. The redraw is every ten years.

if you read some of the articles, nothing was changed the last time the redraw period came around about a year ago, so it's acutally been about 11 years (good math huh?)

davis was in office for 4 years before that and did nothing but spend. i have a close relative who is an independant public utilities consultant and he has told me many times that gray davis ignored lots of good advice when signing those energy contracts. gray davis was also the worst kind of politician. he ran ads in the republican primary to make sure he would face bill simon. he has a proven history of directly paying back campaign donations with retirement plans (state workers) and shutting down competition (prison guards). hell even the UCLA daily bruin, about as liberal a paper as you can find, doesnt like him anymore (http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/news/articles.asp?id=25178). he has been a terrible governor and thats why he will be recalled.
