i got the software bundled with a motherboard i bought about a year ago...does anyone know how much the subscription is? TIA

The subscription is like $10 for a year or somthing around that. They've been doing this for a while now.

I think they've upped it to $9.95 a year now. I'm not 100% certain of that. You should be able to find NAV 2002 at online vendors for $16.00 with a full year of updates. You can find it cheaper but with only 3 months of updates. Speaking from experience here. :(

2001 and 2002 can be configured to do updates automatically.

Search the For Sale/Trade forum too.

You could always format your computer and reinstall and you'll have another year. Some might consider this dishonest though

Go to the Symantec NAV Download Page and download the stand-alone update file (e.g. 0308i32.EXE). Then run it to install the updated virus defs. Works every time.

At the bottom of the page, there is a link to a .txt file that describes how to also manually install the def files.

<< sweet...thanks tcsenter >>

did it work? I remember before I tried to manually update virus definitions in Norton and it just spit back the subscription info when I ran the exe.

Running the .exe is not 'manually' updating the virus defs. You can read update.txt to find out how to manually extract and install the def files.

SendTrash: yes it did update...you just download the file and run it like any other executable file...when it finished, i then ran Norton and looked at the virus list and it said March 8...thanks again tcsenter!
