Submitting a resume for a job via e-mail

There are a number of jobs on my campus that I would like to apply for, and they outline to e-mail resumes in. Should I attach the resume document as well as my cover letter, or should I paste in the cover letter, then only attach the resume, or paste in both?

I'd submit it in PDF format. But if the application or description states another way to do it, follow their instructions.
