Submarine cable map

It looks like Randy Waterhouse never got his cable installed.

Edit: Interesting how the cables use the Panama Canal. 🙂 Laying cable overland must be sufficiently more expensive than laying cable at sea to make it worth the jog to Panama.

I was thinking the same thing about the eastern Med and the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. Looks like a 16-bit address bus running through there 🙂.

Also, check out the infographics at the bottom. The small maps show the actual laid paths of the cables as well as the sea bottom profile.

It's refreshing to see how organized they are!

They certainly took their time making sure they were all angled correctly and avoided as many overlaps as possible! BRAVO!!!

lol @ cuba, surrounded by cable with one link to venezuela

sicily looks like the hub of the mediterranean - wonder if the mob has their fingers in that

Yeah, check out North Korea's splendid isolation. I imagine they get their link overland from China.

IIRC, Cuba's problem is all the sanctions or whatever. There was a thread about it here a while ago.

Do all of those trans-Atlantic cables really terminate in Long Island like that?

Seems like a really bad idea to put all those eggs in one basket, knowing how often they have problems with storm damage.

they are all connected to Wall St. 😛

When does the cable get run to Antarctica?

I've got a friend who works down there part of the year. He used the iridium phone to call me recently. I know they have at least some minimal Internet access, and it's better than what I had when I was on a US nuclear missile sub.

I've heard they might have come up with a hull vibrating transmission thing for subs, not sure how that'd work or impact stealth.
