Subaru Wheels Interchangeable?

Need some tires for my 1996 Impreza and was wondering if the wheels from a newer WRX would fit? Thinking if i can find a set at one of the junk yards around here I might just change both - rims and tires , but wanted to make sure on the fitment.

I think they should, but I'm not certain if the offset will be correct. Nasioc might know more.

i don't see why they wouldn't. the stock 2002-2004 wrx wheels are the same size IIRC, 16"? i'm sure you wouldn't have any rub issues...

Yup, they fit. Also try looking for Legacy, Outback, or Forester wheels too. The only ones that won't fit are 05+ WRX STi (they are 5x114, instead of the 5x100), SVX, and Tribeca.

The 16s (and 17s from the later years) are a cheap and common upgrade. (I got 3 sets for 2 my Subarus)

Where are you that you see WRXs in the junkyard???

The only ones that are definitely not interchangeable are the 05+ STI wheels. I believe most every other Subaru uses the 5x100 lug pattern. Not sure on the Tribeca though.

The wheels themselves should fit, but the stock tire for the new WRX is about 6% larger than the '96 Impreza. You'll have to find a different size tire that's close to the same diameter of your stock tires. Go to http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp to compare tire sizes. 205/50-16 is less than 3% off, and it's what tirerack recommends.

Thanks. I actually have a site that has a similar program. Just looking for something nice. Concensus says that the newer WRXs have a different offset/lug spacing. It's just my work car but still gets 30mpg in town so it's kind of hard to get rid of and it's not in that bad of shape. So, I'll probably just gonna put a few dollars into it and drive it for a while.

Just find your local subaru community website, I bet that someone there will be willing to part with their wheels (and maybe even with tires on) for real cheap. Most enthusiasts replace the wheels, so there are tons out on the market.
