Hi there,
I'm looking for a sub-notebook. Wanna know why? Cuz I'm looking for a real light notebook, compact and that's about it. And yeah, the batteries should also last about 2 hours. That would be great. It's _not_ a desktop replacement, that's why I'm looking for a small one.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Sony picture books, but they get a tad les "sub" with the double, triple, or quad battery on them

I've been looking for one of these, but so far nothing has convinced me to buy. I want a tiny notebook with a mobile Radeon, but no one is building those yet. Anyway, the ones on my list:

Toshiba Portege 2000 (link may not work)

Sony Vaio SRX77

Dell LatitudeC 400

EDIT: IBM X22 (thx hans)

portege 2000 blows, trident cyber alladin sucks. its got a intergrated uma, which is crap for 3d, and makes it slower. consider it really only a p3-650. battery is like 1.5 hours. that also sucks. the hard drive is 1.8" meaning less speed on outer tracks. more suckage . it is thin and looks cool. thats about it

the viao srx77 is nice, screen is too small though 10" will kill you, not to mention its got integrated graphics so no 3d.

latitude c400 is very fast. low battery life. i read the dvd rom is very bulky since the casing is big. its nice though. doesnt look all that cool, and not quite as expensive looking as the others. that expensive look well... depends if you care.

get the ibm x22 . has a p3-800 tualatin, and a radeon mobility 8mb. thats not that fast, but its way faster than the others video wise.

i personally have an hp zu1155 omnibook 500 clone. it would be great if it had a radeon mobility instead of the rage128 mobility , maybe in the next update. battery lasts like 3 hours on this , and its cheap on ebay.

hans, so when do you think most of the ultra-portables will start to get 16 or 32mb Radeon-class 3D (if ever)...?

doubt it. the higher memory vid cards, use up more power in general. i'm assuming when notebooks have 128mb cards, maybe a few subnotees willl have 16mb cards

Must be your bad eyes, I wonder what you must have been doing too much of ;) I have a sr1k and I find the screen to be better than a 13.3 when browsing the web whilst sitting on the sofa.
