Hi, I am currenlty buying a bunch of laptops for my company, and I am in need of laptops with a minimum of 500 mhz with 128 ram, which can load win 2000. They will need a mid-end sound card so I can hvae voice recognition software installe on them (this is a must, regardless of how bad the technology of it is) they will need a cd-rom drive and an a drive and must be brand new.

Anyone know of anything I can get in this price range, or is this not possible?

thanks!

Gateway has a cheap Solo laptop..maybe you can get a business discount for buying in bulk??

Solo 1400? I forget exactly. I think it's $699. Someone had a link to it...if I remember right you can't find it by just going to laptops and looking at what they have listed, It's a direct link.

Maybe RossMAN or someone knows??

Notebooks that I have seen start at $950 and go up. However Intel just cut about $107 off their mobile P3 processors yesterday. If you are lucky the notebook manufacturers will pass on that savings bringing it to $850 or so. But that is still 42% over your budget. I just don't know of any sub $600 ones. Bulk discount will help a bit, but they won't cut off 42%.

Many places sell remanufactured notebooks with about 800 MHz Celeron speed in the $600-$700 price range. But you need brand new ones. Good luck.

Edit: even the clearance outlets don't have 500 MHz for $600 - there are plenty of P2 366 MHz notebooks around $600.
