Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to find the best quality 19" LCD Monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio (no wide-screen) for under 200 bucks. Would like it to have built in speakers if possible. Any suggestions?

Most, if not all current LCD monitors are in the 5:3 (166:1) format. Your best bet may be to shop for closeouts or to find them on ebay. I found a number of possible leads for some under $200 by searching Google for 4:3 monitor.

You may be lucky to find one with speakers, but remember, built in speakers probably won't sound as good as a separate, inexpensive 2.1 set (including a sub-woofer), which I've occasionally seen on sale for $30 or less. For example, some of these.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the link, I did search google, but I found the reviews for each flatscreen difficult to follow. Just wondering if anyone had any particular preference for one over the other.

For picture, my favorite brand is Samsung, and some Viewsonic models look good. Of course, all manufacturers have had individual models with problems so be sure to find good technical reviews for any models that interest you.

Buy.com has a few that may be worth checking on this page.

Thanks again for your help. I've generally been satisfied with Samsung products also. My big screen and blu-ray players are Samsung and I love them..

YW

here is something I like, no speakers though..

You look at your monitor. You to listen to your speakers. If you have the space, you'll enjoy both more by getting the right part for each job.

I design pro audio electronics. Trust me on this.

What are your thoughts on the samsung monitor I'm considering? Good or bad?

Samsung lists it under their monitors for business so it's may be built for a more demanding market.

It looks like it's identical to this model, except that this one uses less power and its suggested price is $5 higher.

It's got good specs, it's within your price range, and it's Samsung. If you can't find anything negative about it in searching the web, I'd say it looks like a good choice. However, I'm spoiled because I live in L.A. where I can find almost any current model in a store to view in person. There's nothing like actually viewing a monitor before buying, and buying from a brick and mortar store has the advantage of having a local address if you need to return/exchange a part that fails quickly.

If you don't have that option, and you don't find a better choice quickly, I don't think you'll save much compared to the value of your time you'd spend looking for another make or model.

Hey thanks! I was 10 seconds away from buying the Samsung without the speakers when the issue of the built in speakers started bugging me. You see, my new system is taller than my old one, long story short my desk space is veeeery tight so I have no room for external speakers. The only thing I use speakers for is to stream music and when I do, it's very old country blues so the range of the sound isn't much of an issue for me. Anyways, I'm definitely getting the speaker version. Thanks!

Try this one, it's the same monitor with speakers.

Hey! Look at that! The complete answer to the OP's request.

The only thing I use speakers for is to stream music and when I do, it's very old country blues so the range of the sound isn't much of an issue for me.

In addition to being an audio product designer, I'm a musician, singer, songwriter so I'd still opt for a decent, inexpensive set of speakers if you have the space, just because they'd sound better with a sub-woofer, which, in my case, sits under my desk, but that's just MHO.

Thanks alot you guys..I agree Harvey, and who knows..I can always buy a nice compact set of desk speakers in black and give away the big ugly putty colored ones.
