sub $120 mobo/cpu

so, I decided I'm going to build another computer as a spare to keep at my other house when I'm there so I don't have to deal with my laptop for coding.

I'm hoping to spend $200 on the whole rig. I have alot of parts already, so the $200 is basically for cpu/mobo/ram/gfx card

I basically am planning ~$100-$120 for mobo/cpu, $30-40 for ram, and $75ish for the graphics card.

I'm thinking of this for the cpu/mobo

Do yall have any better suggestions? Also, on a side note, a micro ATX card should fit in a full sized case right?

thanks

Good choice on CPU/mobo combo, just don't expect it to set overclock records.

What GFX card you have in mind? Something like 8500?

mATX will fit in ATX case just fine.

I don't like anything with the ECS brand. I just got a combo from Newegg that has an Asrock AM2 microATX mobo with an AMD 2600 MHz (true clock) single core for $about 110 shipped. Here's the mobo:

Looks like the combo is with a lower clock Sempron now for about 85$ shipped. But you can still get the Athlon 64 2600 (4000+) for a package price about 120$s. I assembled mine today and it sure seems fast to me coming from a Sock. A Duron 1600... I can hardly hit the BIOS setup key in time.

The Asrock definitely needs a BIOS update - came with 1.8 and 2.2 is available. Funny RAM clock: set to 266, shows 290 on memtest, set to 333 and shows three fitty something... 😕 I have the diskette ready, will do the update tomorrow - hope it fixes those weird RAM clock discrepancies. Temps are all running in the low 30's.

I bought a couple extra DDR2 667 (many say they OC easily to 800 - Micron D9 chips) modules and have them in my FS/T listing linked below.

If that only had a gigabit LAN, I'd be on it like stink on fresh dog poo for a NAS. There is also a combo with a BE dual core for $124.
