Stylish Lighters?

any zippo in particular? looking on ebay most of these are around $30. was hoping to spend a little more, around a $100 or $150

I don't think you're going to find any kind of lighter for 100-150 unless it has something on it (like a diamond). Or a collectible. So it depends on if you expect him to use it. Does he collect them? Knowing smokers in the past...many of them lose lighters like i lose hair (no laughing). To spend that much....i just wouldn't do it unless it is a collectors item. Maybe get him a cool zippo and something to go along with it? Something he'd like? I dunno. I'm throwing ideas out there.

I heard pretty soon you will not be able to carry a lighter on a plane.......... no carry on and no check in baggage 🙁

Smokers will be allowed matchs thought. :Q

No check in? That's pretty dumb.

already the case.

I've transported Zippos in my check in luggage recently. 😕

Yeah. Check in is fine. Carry on is a no-no. I mean, IIRC, you can even check guns, so long as you tell them. Also, the lighter rule went into effect this week, IIRC.

gotcha. I was under the impression that there were no lighters allowed in carry on baggage since 9-11. Didn't know it was only just recently.

I saw on the news that they will change that pretty soon.

Makes no sense to me.

I guess it's to stop shoe bombers 😛

You can get Colibri and other higher-end lighters in this range. They are usually gold or silver with etchings and all kinds of good stuff. You can get them both on-line and in GOOD tobacco shops...you know the kind where they sell just tobacco and smoking products.

They aren't always a great buy, though. The piezo-electric strike on many Colibri models does not travel well and can easily get screwed up by dust or impact, but they are great lighters for people who actually smoke. Purpose-built with very adjustable flames. Many models have cutters built right in and the pipe-specific models always have angled flames and built-in picks.

Actually - you haven't been able to have lighters in check-in baggage for years (How do they check?), and the carry-on ban started nationwide 04/14.

Wierd parts is - it's in response to the "shoe bomber", who tried to light his shoe bomb with matches. 😕

thanks for the heads up about the carry-on lighter rule. i flew a couple months ago but had no problems with my zippo getting through... but now that i know that has since changed, it'll save me the hassle next time.

not to knock the security of airlines, but that same flight my friend accidentally forgot that he keeps a film cutting blade in one of his side pockets of his backpack (graphic designer). he carried it with him on the to and from flights, and didnt realize it was there until the car ride home. pretty good sized blade too. go figure.

Mrs. Elektro bought me a Colibri for my cigars. Has a built-in cigar cutter, and a jet flame. nice and heavy, feels good to use. The finish is easy to scratch, though.
