Yeah. Check in is fine. Carry on is a no-no. I mean, IIRC, you can even check guns, so long as you tell them. Also, the lighter rule went into effect this week, IIRC.

You can get Colibri and other higher-end lighters in this range. They are usually gold or silver with etchings and all kinds of good stuff. You can get them both on-line and in GOOD tobacco shops...you know the kind where they sell just tobacco and smoking products.
They aren't always a great buy, though. The piezo-electric strike on many Colibri models does not travel well and can easily get screwed up by dust or impact, but they are great lighters for people who actually smoke. Purpose-built with very adjustable flames. Many models have cutters built right in and the pipe-specific models always have angled flames and built-in picks.
