Well, my family was over at some other house for some family party, and he typed up one of his reports there. They only had Microsoft Works (I know, he shoulda used Wordpad). Anyway, he's screwed now because I can't figure out a way to open it right. If I use Word, or Note/Wordpad it has all the messed up characters. Can someone help? I remember putting a checkbox next to the 'converters' when I installed Microsoft Office, does anyone know where I can go convert the file to a Word file in Office, or is it automatic? If it is, it's not working. Can someone who has Works open the file and post the content in this thread or get it to me some other way? Thanks a lot...

I hope someone can help you, because I can't.

The normal procedure when using Works should be to use the "File Save As" command to save the file after it is created in a format that can be used on your regular PC - like .rtf format. If you can find any PC with Works on it you can open the file and then save it in a common format. Then open that file in Word, e.g.

Word 2k lists .wps as a Works 4.0 file format, so you may need to make sure you try to open it with at least that version of Works if you can find one to resave it...

And I can't find my Office 2k CD, so I can't attempt to install the proper converter...

Yeah, I have the converter installed, but the stupid 'box' looking characters are still there. I tried doing a find and replace, but I guess the program reads it differently than what it shows...

I'm in the process of manually deleting all them boxes now... crap. By the way, thanks for the help guys...

edit: Thanatopsis, thanks!!! Took forever to even go through half that file... I owe you one man!!!
