stupid wireless question

ok, i'm a geek and i know i should know the answer to this question, but try as i might i can't find it anywhere. so apologies in advance for asking something so dumb. here goes:

i have a location in my house where i want to put a tv and multiple console games that i want to connect to my home network BUT i'm cheap and don't want to have to buy wireless dongles for all of them. can i buy a single wireless router (which also has 4 ports on the back) and have them all connect by wire to this device, which then connects wirelessly to my home network? i assume i'd disable dhcp on this device, but how do i get it to connect to my network? is there a special name for this kind of wireless device?

thanks in advance,

joe

What you want is a switch and a wireless bridge, which might both be the same device. Some custom firmware can turn a regular router into this configuration, or there are prebuilt devices that will do this, for example:

D-Link DAP1522

PS: That link is not necessarily an endorsement of the device; I have no personal experience with it.
