i have a copy of windows PE, but its not self bootable, so i have no idea how this thing installs. i tried running every possible exe there is for it, but all i get back is "cannot be run in dos mode." anyone know how your supposed to install/run this damn thing? does anyone even know about PE (pre-installation environment)?

its a self contained pre-installation environment, with a windows xp'ish style interface. i added a link above for info.

are you sure its a copy of Windows PE? because it should be bootable if it is.

Windows PE doesn't install anything, it allows you to boot off the CD to allow you to run scripts and do network management stuff.

at least thats what I gather...

yeah, its supposed to do that, but apparently theres no boot information on the cd. so it doesn't boot by itself. i tried booting to dos and running some of the files on the disc to see if i can start it up, but nothing.

Since you don't have a "rig sig," [say that 5 times :D] tell us about your setup, maybe even a noob like myself can help.

nero still requires a boot image from somewhere. i tried using the boot image from win xp, but that just resulted in it hanging at the part where it asks to boot from cd.

Make sure that you do not require some sort of boot floppy sequence prior to booting from the cd.
