Stupid UPC Code!!

ARGHH! I bought a 32" Sharp TV from Best Buy for $450 a week ago and it's supposed to come with a $50 Best Buy gift certificate by mail. In the commotion of quickly trying to move in and paint my apartment before classes start, I threw away the big ass box... Now after looking at the form, I need the UPC code.. Dammit. I'm so stupid.

Anyone know where I can get a UPC for a Sharp 32" TV? (random long shot.. I figure what the hell)

BTW, the point of this thread is to laugh and poke fun of me so I feel stupid and I won't do it again.

Doubtful... because the UPC coding on the receipt would no coincide w/ the UPC code of any box that you're able to come upon.... unless you go to a landfill and look for your box, the chances of you actually getting the rebate are really slim - companies don't enjoy giving out rebates any more than you enjoy giving away money to your customers (duh 🙂)

Unless the rebate doesn't require the receipt?? (Never seem a case, yet)

Best of luck to you (hands brxndxn some gloves, a shovel, and a clothes pin) "That's for your nose"

UPC codes are not specific to the item, they are specific to the product. If you know someone that works at a Best Buy or Circuit City, they could effectively get you a UPC code off of a TV of the same model.

I always thought that they were specific to specific items... that's why they are mentioned on the receipt? I could be wrong.... but I thought that such a case would serve as a counter-measure to such actions..

GG - he means that UPC is specific to that model Sharp TV. Imagine the mess retail stores would have if they had 50 different UPC codes for the same model TV - that would just suck. (Having worked retail I can tell you it would suck.)

here's what you do. get a knife. walk into a store (hopefully they don't have metal detectors). covertly take a tv and cut the upc from the box. restore tv to prior resting place, and slip upc into pocket. exit store and run like a madman once out.
