ok. i thought i'd ask for some help from ATOT.

i got an olevia 37" tv on BF but it doesn't have any input for coax (and in my dorm room that's all we have).

the most basic thing i could do is to get a VCR (any one) and connect the coax to it, then use composite cables to connect the VCR to the tv. BUT, i thought there might be some (small) device that i could get that would do the same thing instead of having an entire VCR. any suggestions? im also willing to "make" something, perhaps by using parts from a place like radio shack.

thanks for the help.

You don't if they're only "HD Ready" TVs. HD Ready = no tuner. That's what they're trying to say.

If it has an ATSC tuner, most likely it has an NTSC one as well.

Whats the model number?

The TV is stupid because you didn't check the inputs when you bought it? ;)

ya. i thought that there might have been a box similar to the ones you get from comcast or some other cable provider that connects to my tv via hdmi.

in any case, there's no hd channels available through our dorm rooms.

SO, no other devices to connect cable to my tv other than a vcr?

Do you want ATSC or NTSC broadcasts? I dont think you're going to be able to get ATSC beccause you don't have an antenna. NTSC on the other hand can be done.

Why dont you get a tuner for your computer and use your XBMC to stream off the pc?

I have a KWorld tuner (NTSC) that I got from Newegg for $80-90. Works well. I got it so I can use a LCD monitor as a TV in my study.

my brother bought this 20in advent hd lcd tv. It does like 1080i, I gave him my component cables ( has conenctor for both ps2 and xbox)that I used for my ps2, so he can hook up his xbox through component cable. Well his stupid tv has audio input for the regular ol composit video but for the component, there no standard audio hook up for the rca plugs. there some kind of port there for the audio hook up next to the component plugs, but i'm not sure what kind of connector it is. Just know it not a rca style plug.

It not an optical input, I think it either a mini stereo input jacks or that digital audio connector, I cant think of it name at the moment.

Just buy a cheap tv tuner for your computer and run everything off the puter to the lcd then, you win win cuz games, internet, dvd, hd, and tv can all be done right from your computer in 37 inches of lcd glory.

There are two types of digital audio, toslink which uses light and, coax which uses the rca style plug.
