I have a TSA approved lock. I just replaced it when they cut my other one off the bag but left it inside it.

This time they cut it off again along with the ring that it locks to on one of the zipper pulls.

My bag is usually heavy due to tools (70lbs).

The last time they also dumped a 1000 zip tie bag into the suitcase I had.

It's ridiculous.

the only time ive ever had airport security (not sure if they were TSA at the time) go through my bag was when I threw all my textbooks into my suitcase between layers of clothes.
 
UPS your real clothes, and fill your own bag with old throwaways and ground/broken glass.

I've surprisingly had no issues with bags, and I have even less of a hassle when I carry a gun in my bad. It actually seems to go easier depending on the carrier. When I flew alaska last I got the bag screened privately and the TSA guy didn't even look through it, just swabbed around the gun case and the zippers to make sure there were no explosives and then let it go through approved.

They let you bring a gun in your carry on?

AFAIK there is not an option to privately screen checked bags.

on some airlines, and some only with special reasons needed.

If the person was LEO then they should have stated that in the OP as no one but LEO can request that option with or without a gun.

I am not using that lock for security outside the airlines...if a non-TSA employee got caught 1) with a TSA key or 2) messing with passenger luggage when not authorized; they'd have major issues.

The problem is (and I have know others this happened to as we all fly a lot and usually have heavy and nice bags) the TSA/luggage handlers become vindictive and thieves when they identify heavy bags or nice bags (mine is a top of the line TravelPro).

My brother has had tools stolen regularly through atlanta and kept complaining...it finally came to a major issue when his entire bag was checked onto the luggage belt, but never made it out to the baggage claim area. Some $5000 in loss.

There have been many TSA/handlers busted and the airlines do not want to take responsibility. If you are active on travel forums you will see a lot of this.

In my case, I am thinking they know my bag. It's not a common one plus it's not common to be carrying 70lbs in one. They cut my lock the last time. I think this time they were sending some kind of message by actually cutting the clasps off one zipper. The way the lock fits through both, one could not have been damaged alone. Also this time I upgraded the lock to something much harder to cut.

Either way they were TSA-approved locks with the key slot.
 
I hope the TSA takes a dump in your bag next time, you know, for shits and giggles.
 
Alky I'm sure you were being your good old self and get flag every time you go through the airport security, Par for the course.
 
When the TSA opens a bag don't they have to leave a slip that they opened the bag to inspect and who the agent was?
