do you have any ip blocking program installed?, if so you probably need to turn it off or change it so it doesn't block valve servers.

Yup, stupid Steam.

Stupid Steam for not being able to take control of your software and/or hardware and fix your internet connection for you.

Stupid Steam for not having a dedicated support site. Why don't they put one at https://support.steampowered.com/ ?

Maybe they'd be smart enough to have a Featured Article on Troubleshooting Network Connectivity. But, they're too stupid for that.

Let's blame Steam for all of your problems.

His problem is that he needs to get onto the internet just to run his game. That is probably why he is pissed. I can tell you that their support is subpar in my experience anyway even if he went to that site. I had an open ticket for a week before anyone tried to help me. Even after a month, I still have the same problems.

Although I have been able to play HL2 without logging on to steam. Have you tried opening HL2 EP1 directly? Prey wouldn't let me do that, but I don't think that Episode 1 requires you to be online to play.

Get used to having to get on the internet for games...

PC and console dev's are pissed over piracy and going to start making all their games with some server side content delivery so that games won't run without an internet connection and thus proper authentication of a valid software SN/account, etc.

He doesn't need to get online to play his game. He's already online, or Steam would be running in Offline mode.
