stupid starcraft problem with w2k

Stupid game just locks up when I try to get into the multiplayer menu (so I can connect to battlenet). It just sits at that screen (the one with the moon in the background) and nothing else happens. The menu doesn't pop up, and the only way to get out is to ctrl-alt-del and close the game. Anyone else have this problem? 🙁:|:frown:😕

My system specs are:

ECS K7SA5 motherboard
Athlon 1.4Ghz not overlcocked
256MB DDR2100 Crucial
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 installed
DirectX 8.0a
Geforce 2 Pro 64MB w/ lastest detonator drivers from nvidia.com

yeah i tried reinstalling it, updating it by letting the game do it and manually updating it...i might have to end up reformatting and installing w2k over again 🙁

it works when i first install the game.. it can connect to battle net and get the patch, but after the patch is applied, it locks up at the multiplayer screen. its gay!

i would say 256 is barely pushing it with win2k, but no way it would lock up in the same place everytime if it was a ram error.

have you tried running in win98 compat mode??

sounds like a windows error in registry...prolly best to reformat or revert a Ghost image if available

i've run SC/BW with no probs whatsoever in Win98 and Win2k, ranging from 64 to 384mb, no difference whatsoever..that's what makes SC such an awesome game

have you in previous installs of win2k been able to play SC/BW in multiplayer? with the same hardware that is..

i could have sworn i had heard of compatibility problems between sc and win2k. you're not alone, i know that much.

I played SC/BW in Win2k for quite a while, without any problems. Rock solid game, I love it!

win2k problems for me were fixed a couple of patches ago, the one where it would just randomly quit.

also no probs here in winXP for me.

wow 10 posts in a matter of minutes!😛

i recently formatted my computer and installed w2k for the first time, so I don't know if sc would work with a fresh install.

before, it would just pause for a long time trying to get into the multi-player connection screen, but now it just locks up there.

if i try to run it in win95/98 or nt compatibility mode, sc says it can't find my cd. 🙁

grrr i wanna go build some hydralisks!
