Stupid Question

OK, here goes:

CPU's put into a dual CPU board must be the exact same stepping, yes or no? The reason i ask is this, I have a board, with a single CPU, but the place I want to order it from (great disocunts), isn't sure they can get the same stepping. How many MP steppings are there, and can you be one or two removed, or do they have to match at all??

Any info would be greatly appreciated..
