When referring to water blocks or even regular air cooling solutions, what does "lapping" mean? Contextually I've taken it to mean polishing the base so that its more smooth but I assume the "lapping" word also implies some certain technique to be used ...

Can someone enlighten me? 🙂

Wasn't sure what I would find if I Googled "lapping" since its a verb used to describe other things but lo and behold it came up with something relevant right at the top: Lapping Link

re. that link: I don't think any countertop is flat enough. You want to use a nice thick piece of float glass for your lapping surface.
