Stupid question - SDRAM usable on a DDR board?

Hi,

This is probably a very stupid question for anyone more knowledged, but can "regular" SDRAM (PC-133) be used on a board with DDR SDRAM slots or are they totally incompatible? So if I buy a board intended for DDR memory, do I have to use DDR to get it running at all?

(I'm going to have to get a new motherboard (and CPU - slot A doesn't seem very common anymore 🙂 ) as my system is actually braking down 🙁 , but even though RAM prices are low I would like to be able to change the minimal amount of components right away...)

Thanks in advance!

Hey...

Well, it depends. some boards can take the 168 pin sdram models (PC133), while others can only take the ddr modes (184 pin). If your mobo can take SDRAM, then the answer is yes. Some mobos out there have the availability for both. What mobo are you looking into?

Well, actually I haven't really decided on the motherboard yet... Probably would be going with an Athlon XP => socket A, but that's about it... If there were boards that could use my old memory to make a "gradual upgrade", ie. possibly upgrading the memory at a later date, possible then that might be a deciding factor... 🙂

ECS K7S5A is the board to go with here..... If top-notch performance is not one of your top priorities....

He's right...

It's a very stupid question.

😉

Why are people too lazy to do Any kind of research? There have been a million articles writen on DDR. 184 pins man.

Well a little more kindness would be in order here. The orginal poster is relatively new and the search function does not always work. You do not run the forum or pay for any of the bandwidth so what is the big deal. Are you trying to show your superior intellect? If so you failed.
