Stupid question: Is the height of a 19? ?widescreen? LCDs the same as a 19? standard LCD,

They are shorter I'm pretty sure. They may also have higher DPI further shrinking the physical size.

Yes, same concept.

A widescreen will be shorter than a regular LCD.

My wife currently has this 17" and I am looking at getting this 19" as an upgrade for her.

Better or just different?

Depends on the brand. Some brands like Samsung have very thin frame, while others have real thick frame. If you're talking about the screen itself, 19" WS are shorter than regular 19".

OK thanks. Looking for an LCD to go with the CC Acer package. This 19" looks better for the same price AR.

I call them "shortscreen" LCDs for a reason. They are the same as a larger LCD but shorter (and charge more money for this feature).

But it's a little bit easier to use the space that the monitor features, IMO.

i like to take 19" lcd's and put them on rotating mounts, then i rotate it 90 degrees and rotate the desktop 90 degrees.

it's actually pretty sweet because you end up with one long screen 1440 x 900 OR you can use top for one app and bottom for the other app. giving you 2 720 x 900 screens (effectively).

also think about it, how much web content is wider than 900 dpi? almost none, but a lot of web content is much longer than 900. shoot even longer than the 1440, but you don't have to scroll anymore.

a higher resolution screen yields even better results.

4:3 is your standard monitor aspect ratio, widescreen would be 16x9 so no, your 19 inch widescreen tv viewable height is lower.
