Stupid question: Grape Stomping

Whats up with grape stomping? Surely back in the days people couldve devised a better way to crush grapes for wine.

Even now, why still do it? I understand the reviving traditional techniques in any artisanal craft...but feet + digestibles? that shit is sick

ill take a soulless industrialized commercial grape crusher for my pinot noir thanks
