Stupid Question can CD burner record DVD from my DVD player??

I think the blank DVDs are more expensive than the movies! Also last year I had seen a DVD burner for $300. You can rip a DVD to a CD but you loose the quality. There was a rcent thread in the applications forum about it.

DVD burners for $300? ha! the disk are around $20-30 depends on which burner you get. (theres no standard right now, 2 different ones competing right now)

I have been informed that DVD's are built differently and that it is impossible to copy them. I am not sure that this is true, but it is pretty believable.

Maybe if you had a million dollars you could buy a DVD maker that the people in movie business use. I think that we are a long way from copying DVD's

You just need a DVD-ROM drive, a CD-RW drive, a dvd(mpeg2) converts to vcd(mpeg 1) or divx(mpeg4) program. Of course the video and sound quality will be downgraded.

You can copy DVD movies all you need is a DVD ROM drive as a source, decription software to remove the copy protection, 5 Gigs of hard drive space and a DVD RAM drive to record it on. The catch is the cost, $300-700 for the RAM drive and $40 for the blank two sided 5.2 Gig disk. The movie will have to be cut into two segments to fit on the disk. Also the copied disk may not be readable in home DVD units. Too much effort and cost to copy a $20 movie. Rick.
